Climate
Rio is a subtropical place, which means it is mostly hot all year round. It is hot and humid. In the winter the weather is a little changed due to cold air masses from the South. The daily temp is usually about 72?F (22?C). Highland have mild temps that average below 68?F (20?C) due to high elevation.
Air Pollution |
Deforestation |
Waste Disposal |
In Brazil the air pollution has increased due to rapid urbanization and industrial development in the city centers. Cities had not choice but to ignore their environmental responsibility to expand and make room for their rapid growing population. This lead to infrastructure and so on was built using a variety of products and methods that release harmful pollution into the air. They are currently trying to find new ways to reduce their pollution production.
Although all of these environmental challenges are mainly focused in Brazil, they still occur in Rio de Janeiro. For example, the Atlantic Forest is mentioned in Agriculture Expansion, Pauper Pulp Problem, and Deforestation as well, connect to Rio de Janeiro because the Atlantic Forest is stretched and spread across the east coast through Rio.

The famous Amazon Rainforest is in Brazil, deforestation is a big threat to this area. The "Lungs of the World" for the Oxygen they produce, is being torn down for timber, development, and agriculture every minute. Carbon Dioxide as a greenhouse gas is exposed to the atmosphere every time a tree is cut down. This is a major cause because it increases the risk of climate change. These problems also apply to the Atlantic Forest.

Brazil is one of the most major countries that produce very big amounts of waste and garbage. This is a significant problem because it is very dangerous to occupied areas such as poisoning the soil, air and water, creating the dilemma of what to do with it. Brazil currently produces 161,000 tons of solid waste every day. When the landfills become too full of garbage, the surroundings suffer from the toxicity of the landfills and become unstable for life.

Other IssuesCattle Problem
There is an expansion of cattle ranching and it is a threat to the Cerrado, an extensive woodland savanna ecosystem in Brazil because it is closely linked to the increased soy cultivation and there are concerns about the impact of this industry on sensitive ecosystems. Agriculture Expansion Brazil's ongoing expansion of agriculture is threatening to vulnerable habitats such as the Atlantic Forest, the Cerrado and the Amazon. Pauper Pulp Problem The world's most diverse ecosystems were turned into fast growing plantations, in the Atlantic Forest. Brazil has millions of hectares of exotic plantations, which are mostly eucalyptus (non-native species). |
